The end of August and the beginning September bring not one, but TWO live events to Old Towne Swing.
First up on August 30th, we’ll be hosting Jonathan Stout and The Grand Slam Sextet. Then, to kick off September, Nat and her Tiger Four will be joining us on the 6th! Both engagements will feature two one hour sets of music, instead of the traditional three 45-minute sets we usually do. Each night will have a special event admission price of $20 (includes the lesson).
Here’s the scoop on The Grand Slam Sextet on August 30th:
We always have a band to follow up Camp Hollywood weekend, but this year Old Towne Swing was provided the opportunity to fully bookend the event. With a band like The Grand Slam Sextet as the act, it was hard to consider passing up the chance.
Bandleader Jonathan Stout’s lineup of The Grand Slam Sextet strongly echoes the Benny Goodman Sextet lineups that featured Charlie Christian on guitar and Lionel Hampton on vibraphone. In short, you’re going to get wonderfully textured, in-the-pocket music that is well suited to any style of Swing dancing-and beside that, it’s fantastic listening music.
We’re also going to have guest instructors Blake Thiessen and Grace Babbes out to teach the all levels Lindy Hop class at 7:45 pm, along with guest DJ Andry Rakotomala!
